THE UNWANTED SILENCE
INSTALLATION
Programme Details

This exhibition was on display outside Takashimaya Mall from
15 April 2022 to 15 May 2022
The Unwanted Silence installation is a blend of 2-Dimensional and 3-Dimensional mediums. The installation is designed to portray the inner thoughts of socially awkward individuals in a physical meeting with friends.

The installation is set with the socially awkward individual blindfolded, covering his sense of sight. While sight is a privilege to notice details, it is often a double edge sword for introverts experiencing social awkwardness. The ability to see details often causes introverts to overanalyze situations, creating a drama of their own in their minds. This sets them in a seemingly awkward situation that causes them to feel uncomfortable.

Social awkwardness is common and might seem to be just a temporal discomfort. However, it often leads to individuals losing self-confidence - affecting the ability to speak and increasing tensions in friendships.

The exhibition aims to create a sense of realization for socially awkward individuals. The Unwanted Silence is an awkwardness in the mind, a performance in disguise.
